It’s pouring down like crazy in the city right now, but should you be lucky enough to be heading out to a tropical vacation soon, I highly recommend you pick up Helmut Newton’s Autobiography and give it a whirl. If you are stuck in the city you should pick it up too, as it will be a welcome respite from overcrowded trains and gray days. He is as witty as his pictures are suggestive and you can’t help but fall in love with him and gain a new appreciation for his wonderful photographs. Get it!

The Deetz

Catherine O’Hara’s character in Beetlejuice was full of sartorial win. We’ve been projecting the film downstairs at A.OK for a while, and I’m only reminded of how much I just LOVE that movie. I think it’s time or a proper re-watching with a bowl of popcorn. In the meantime, check out my girl Amanda’s breakdown of Delia Deetz’ epic Japanese avant-garde wardrobe explosion.

The new issue of Australian magazine Russh features a killer editorial with Hannah Holman as an urban warrior ready for battle in a ton of layers, cropped tops and some ass-kicking boots. Perfect inspiration to get dressed in the morning, especially on days when you’re ready to take over the world.

The T Alexander Wang cropped top with exposed shoulders worn over our white asymmetric cropped tee and paired with Enzuvan’s super easy faux wrap drop crotch pants are a little bit sporty with a whole lotta sex appeal. The Harmon parka is the perfect coat to just throw on as you leave the house for a bit of protection against the elements, and an extra dose of cool.

The cropped hoodie is the perfect piece for summer. You probably live in one all winter so why not keep going with the hoodie vibe over the summer? Ours has sleeves, but a little scissor action can transform it into an even cooler (literally) summer staple.

Mixing feminine and masculine pieces always yields AWESOME results, and Harmon’s fisherman pants are just the piece to build your look around. Pair them with a barely-there top with a cape by T Alexander Wang and a rugged black bomber jacket by Bridge and Burn. Add a bit of extra drama with the Monica scarf by Salvor and you’re totally UNSTOPPABLE!
Running up that hill
Wednesday, March 17th, 2010If you come in to the store near closing time, you will probably get to hear some Kate Bush. I’m a newcomer to her steez, but it’s really really good.I’m kind of obsessed with this song? YEAH!
Also good? the epic dancing going on in this video.
Enjoy!

Make it wOAK!
Sunday, March 14th, 2010Yesterday was a super gross day in NYC. The sun never came out and the rain didn’ stop pouring. We found ourselves with a bit of free time and a super long piece of brown shipping paper. There was only one thing to do.
Make outfits.

Alicia’s enchanting larger-than-life turban proclaims she’s a bold woman not afraid to take fashion risks, and why should she when they always pay off? She accessorizes her haute chapeau with Henrik Vibskov sunglasses that match her crimson lips.

Cameron’s simple yet bold bowtie perfectly offsets his slim silhouette and adds a touch of panache to patent Dr Martens. His choice to complete the look? Why, a pair of Alexander Wang’s exaggerated cat-eye sunglasses of course. Me-OW!

I loved my extra dramatic swooping cocktail gown. It’s chic and of course, earth-friendly, which is all the rage these days. I paired it with leather/mesh combo OAK leggings and Alexander Wang shoes and clutch.
I didn’t make the dress of course, I merely served as a guinea pig while everyone ran around me and tried to staple me. AH! The perils of being a moddle….
Here’s an awesome video of the dress in action.
Blog-shopping on a rainy day
Saturday, March 13th, 2010The best pieces from Alexander Wang’s critically acclaimed spring collection have made their way to the store! Here’s a little preview of the definite must-haves.

The perfect sweatshirt for spring, with short sleeves that wrap around to create a cool criss-cross back.
If stripes are your thing, we’ve got you covered! The cool silk button-up on the left has an awesome asymmetric back that hits at the knee! The holey sweater is even cool in person, and it’s available in cool gray and navy.

The studded pyramid clutch also doubles as a weapon and the double zipper boot-sandals are available with a super rad mirrored heel OR in a flat version, which debuted on Courtney Love’s feet at the gas-station afterparty last season.

Piqued your interest? Stop by the store to make them yours and if you’re not in the city, give us a call (212.677.1293)!
